大會男單11號種子，33歲地主名將伊斯納（John Isner）5盤大戰拍退加拿大重砲勞尼奇（Milos Raonic），晉級8強平個人美網最佳紀錄，不過他面臨難題，妻子麥金莉（Madison McKinley）預產期是21日，就怕大賽期間老婆肚中寶貝女兒等不及，提早呱呱落地。
伊斯納溫網男單4強與南非名將安德森（Kevin Anderson）打了6小時36分鐘的史詩大賽還記憶猶新，這場又耗費3小時08分鐘和勞尼奇5盤大戰，才3：6、6：3、6：4、3：6、6：2勝出。
不過伊斯納的寶貝第一胎也即將到來，他的確有想過萬一比賽強碰妻子臨盆該怎麼辦，不過他堅持不可能放棄陪產。伊斯納說，「如果允許我還是會打，或者是兩地往返。但如果正好同一天，我就不會打。我不想錯過她的誕生，一切只能拭目以待，我沒辦法控制。」
即將初為人父，33歲的伊斯納成績也有所突破，今年7月世界排名衝上生涯最佳第8，4月在邁阿密捧回首座千分名人賽冠軍，並在溫網生涯首度挺進大賽4強。
上次打進美網8強已經是7年前，本屆男單僅存地主好手伊斯納，下一場將碰上阿根廷名將波特羅（Juan Martin del Potro），盼在自家挺進4強。
